To support our ambitious growth plans, a rare and crucial opportunity has arisen for a Lead Coffee Specialist to join one of the largest coffee roasters in the UK.Based at our state-of-the-art roastery in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, you will join an experienced and passionate coffee team.

Coffee expertise is a key factor in the company’s customer proposition and is a unique selling point. The lead coffee specialist is the “go-to” person at Lincoln & York for any questions coffee related. Our customers range from high street coffee chains, to pubs, workplaces, and social enterprises – you will be given the opportunity to get under the skin of the industry and our customers and be able to influence and shape the UK coffee sector

The role has 3 predominant parts:-

InnOvation and NPD.  This is a wide-ranging, aspect of the Lead Coffee Specialist role. Managing exciting new products & concepts from inception to launch, using our established stage and gate process. This could involve our internal manufacturing expertise or working with external partners to come up with the perfect solution for our customers and consumers. Developing new blends and recipes across all coffee formats, from cold brew to coffee bags as well as roast profiling, ensure the product fit for all of our customers.

Coffee knowledge. An absolute fascination with coffee from varietals and origin, through to the finished cup means you will be able to impart that wisdom and knowledge to our customers and staff. Representing Lincoln & York externally, to new and existing customers, talking about coffee and sharing your knowledge will be key. While also sharing this knowledge with staff to drive passion and expertise throughout the business

Coffee quality is part of the daily routine at Lincoln & York, with up to 200 cups of coffee tasted throughout the day. Sharing this responsibility with the coffee buyers and other Q graders on pre shipment samples arrivals, production and customer samples means you will be able to influence throughout the process. Monitoring grind sizes on our laser particle size analyser, also forms part of the finished product quality

As well as an absolute fascination with coffee, the successful candidate will be articulate, have excellent numerical skills, a proactive approach and good business acumen. You should be a sociable, team player with the ability to achieve tight deadlines. Being a certified Q grader is desirable but not essential.

In normal times, the role is predominantly based at our Elsham Wold roastery, yet interspersed with visits to clients and exhibitions in the UK and Europe. The roastery is based 7 miles from the Humber Bridge and commutable from Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Hull or Beverley in under 40 minutes.
